Komodo National
Park
The National park
of Komodo is one of two National heritage sites in Indonesia and was set
up in 1980 to protect the unique species the Komodo Dragon, it is run by
the Director General of Forest Conservation and Nature Conservation (PHPA).
The park now encompasses the surrounding waters which are home to one of
the richest fish faunas in the world. Also involved in the Park in
the US based non profit organization The Nature Conservancy (TNC)
they are assisting the Parks authorities with the development of the marine
component of the Park's 25 year management plan. The park includes
41,000 ha of land and 132,000 ha of marine waters.
The diversity of
life in the park is enough to more than satisfy anyone coming to observe
the life above or below the waters, be it for any type of Flora and Fauna,
the Park and surrounding area has wonders abound.
